Very nice and relaxed resort that is a mix of Cape Vidal and Coral Divers at Sodwana. There are huge developments going on in this Southern area – but at the moment it is still feels like you are in Africa as you drive through all the sand tracks sipping on your DM…eating your prawns on the side of the road and not being able to drink the water!
The reef structure is very much like Blood Reef on the Bluff on most of reefs – however it is the stuff you find on the reefs that makes this place worth the effort! We didn’t get to the famed Pinnacles though…. Next time…
Clam
Please don’t forget the DuC Photographic Evening next week – we are hosting a Product evening – all the camera , strobe and housing manufactures are going to be there under one roof!!
So spread the word please!
Looking to dive Saterday morning – give us a shout if you are keen…. |

As the first Spring Rains start to fall, the N.E start to blow and the temperatures start to rise – the epic diving conditions of winter tend to fade.
The Sardines have been around and there have been reports of some dive’s with shoals on Aliwal as well as off Isipingo – with all these things on the boil – every dive opportunity to dive must be taken!
Again windfinder called it to the tee, and a Saturday morning early launch gave us the window to enjoy a great dive on Bat Reef on No.1.
On the way out we ran into a couple of pods of dolphins who appeared to be on the move, looking for fish. The horizon was filled with the spray from some humpbacks that were launching themselves out of the water in the distance – amazing.
Thistle Coral on Bat Reef

The isolated pinnacle of Bat Reef (so named due to the Bat Fish that attack photographers) is home to many pelagic fish, which buzz around the mid water of the reef.

The large conch snail was sighted again and I managed to get some photo’s of the foot? (any details on this snail would be great…)
Stingray on Bat Reef

Old Woman, Bat Reef

The washing of the boat proved to be an interesting one… we were advised of the existence of a “new” dive operator called “dive at five”!!! Amazing – so just like the Chinese knock off the brands – it appears there is now a Chinese Dive at Five! – a “new” dive charter that will starting up in KZN….. you have been warned.
As the cold front pushed through on Saturday, a sneaky shoal of sardines hunted by a pod of dolphins were sighted early Sunday morning in Vetches’ harbour signalling the end of the Sard run and the start of Spring…
